Medicinal
Chemistry: The main focus of my research is discovery of
potential drugs for the treatment of cancer, bacterial infection,
neurodegenerative diseases and inflammation. This involves rational drug design, syntheses,
structure activity relationship studies, preliminary pharmacokinetic
studies, prodrug formation, molecular modeling and statistical
analysis inter alia.
Compounds synthesized in my
laboratory are submitted for relevant biological evaluation to the
laboratories of my collaborators who have state-of-the-art bioassay research
facilities.
Synthetic
Chemistry: Syntheses of designed molecules require sound
synthetic chemistry support. Consequently, we spend considerable amount of time researching new methodologies or
improving old ones to produce bio-active molecules. Efforts are made
to obtain the potential drug candidates containing chiral centers in
optically pure form by performing asymmetric syntheses and/or
resolutions.
Research Facilities
We have sound in-house
analytical and instrumentation facility to foster
Organic Synthesis and Medicinal Chemistry research. We
are constantly upgrading our research capabilities with
modern, sophisticated and state-of-the-art instruments
crucial for our research. Following is a list of some of
the routinely used equipments for my research group.
