Dr Amitabh Jha,
M.Sc., Ph.D. (Delhi)
CHEM 1013 |
Prescribed
Text: Chemistry by Silverberg, 6th Edition. |
Fundamental Chemistry 1: An introductory
treatment of the fundamentals of chemistry: atoms,
molecules, ions, chemical equations, stoichiometry,
thermochemistry, properties of gases, electronic structure
and periodic properties of the elements, chemical bonding,
and molecular structure. (3h lab). Prerequisite:
NS 12 Chemistry or equivalent with 60% or better or
permission of department.

CHEM 2513 |
Prescribed
Text: Organic Chemistry by Solomons and Fryhle, 10th
Edition. |
Introductory Organic Chemistry 1: An introduction
to organic chemistry covering structure, nomenclature and
reactions of the main classes of organic compounds. (3h Chem
2510 lab). Prerequisite: Chem
1023 or
1123 with C- or better.
|
CHEM
2533 |
Prescribed Text:
Organic Chemistry by Solomons and Fryhle, 10th
Edition. |
Introductory Organic Chemistry 2: A more detailed
treatment of the chemistry of functional groups with special
attention given to carbonyl compounds. The student will be
introduced to as well as be presented with a rigorous
discussion of stereochemistry. (3h Chem 2530 lab).
Prerequisite: Chem 2513 with C- or better.

CHEM 3513 |
Prescribed Text:
Organic Chemistry by
Solomons and Fryhle, 9th Edition. |
Intermediate Organic Chemistry: An intermediate course
which will study the chemistry of organic functional groups
not covered at the 2000 level. Special attention will be
given to the use of sophisticated organic reactions for the
synthesis of more complex molecules. The students will be
introduced to organic reactions under inert and anhydrous
atmosphere (3h Chem 3510 lab) Prerequisite: Chem 2533
with a grade of C- or better.
