EDUC 5033 -
Theories of Counselling
This course is an introduction to the field of counselling. An overview
of the philosophical foundation and historical bases of the counselling
profession will be provided as well as an examination of current issues
and future trends. A significant portion of the course is devoted to the
study of the major theories of counselling. Specific issues such as
crisis counselling and counselling with special populations are also
addressed.

EDUC 5066 -
Seminar and Practicum in Counselling
This course involves a counselling practicum in an appropriate setting.
Placements are chosen in consultation with the practicum coordinator. The 500 hour practicum is completed in a block format over a period of 16 weeks. A supervised seminar accompanies the practicum.
Prereq: Educ 5033, 5133; and admission to the MEd Counselling program.

EDUC 5583 -
Counselling Strategies and Interventions
This course pre-supposes knowledge of contemporary theories of the
counselling relationship. Building upon this knowledge, the course
examines the theoretical basis and provide training in the use of
selected counselling techniques--areas such as cognitive restructuring,
systematic desensitization, relaxation exercises and guided imagery will
be investigated.

CLIN 5006 - An
Introduction to Pastoral Care and Counselling
This course is given at several institutions in the Annapolis Valley
region. It seeks to introduce the student to pastoral care within an
institutional setting. Through assigned visitation to the various
facilities, lectures, seminars, and the writing of clinical notes, an
attempt is made to assist students in the development of their pastoral
identity. One day a week for seven hours.

DMIN 8796-
Spiritual Direction/Formation
This course explores spiritual direction and formation. Special attention
is paid to the spiritual formation of the Christian leader and the
spiritual life of the church or institution served. The course addresses
the rich tradition of Christian spirituality as a foundation from which
to explore the personal and social dimensions of spiritual
direction/formation. The underlying goal of the course is to enrich the
ministry of leaders of the Christian faith through an awareness of the
importance of spiritual life, both personally and communally. Theological
and developmental dimensions of the spiritual life provide a context from
which to explore spiritual direction/formation. Spiritual disciplines and
their relevance for spiritual direction/formation will also be addressed.
