Nineteenth century flag with Zulfiqar from Java: See detailed photo at https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:COLLECTIE_TROPENMUSEUM_Katoenen_banier_met_Arabische_kalligrafie_TMnr_5663-1.jpg (Dutch and Arabic translation needed!) All I can tell is that it includes the zulfikar (the stylized iconic split sword of Ali) besides the trivial that it is dark blue with white writing and that it is oblong and it´s rather pentagonal with parallel top and bottom edges and a squat tapering end at the fly, its tip roughly 90°; overall ratio about 12:25. As usual for Arabic-inscribed flags and matching the photo, this image shows the hoist at the viewer´s right hand. I wonder how the reverse looks like.

Jambi

Sultan´s Flag

  4:5, image by Jaume Ollé

In his book "Les drapeaux de l´Islam", P.Lux-Wurm (2001) shows the "Sultan´s flag and ensign, XIXth century" of the Sultanate of Jambi. The flag is rectangular, in proportions 2:3, plain white.
The Sultanate of Jambi was located on the eastern coast of the island of Sumatra, now part of Indonesia. Jambi and the region of Palembang were from the IVth to the XIVth century the center of Sri Vidjaya´s Mahayana Buddhist Empire. Around 1455, Arya Damar, ruler of Palembang, was converted to Islam and took the name of Arya Dilah Abd-Allah.

The plain white flag was used as the Sultan´s personal standard. The white colour symbolized the political and religious powers of the Sultan. The vessels of the Sultanate also used a plain white ensign. Lux-Wurm does not clearly state if they were merchant or war vessels. Therefore we might want to call the flag "State  ensign". The city of Jambi was located 50 km from the seashore but could be reached by ships via the river Batang Hari.
The Sultanate was suppressed in 1945 when the independence of Indonesia was proclaimed. The city of Jambi is now called Telanajpura.
