The flag is described as follows (original in Spanish):
It is composed of three equal stripes, the meanings of which are:
Yellow:
Represents the immense gold wealth that these lands have always possessed.
Green: Signifies the forested area and the grandeur of its territory.
Black:
As we once had lands with oil wells, and the effects of this fact are still
felt, this painful memory is remembered.

The coat of arms is described as follows (original in Spanish):
Its
elements represent: the spear of the Tahamíes tribe and the Tizona (sword) of
the Spaniard, facing each other (during the period known (in local
Historiography) as "La Conquista"; Our Lady of Remedies protecting a
fortress, two cities; the horn scattering gold coins and beside it a lion to
signify the strength of the people of Remedios; at the top, broken chains
appear as a symbol of freedom; in the background appears the flag of the
Municipality; it was designed by Professor Cadavid.
