The flag of the former town of Tamsalu was adopted as the flag of Tamsalu Parish following the merger of the town and the parish in October 2005. It had originally been adopted as the town's flag on November 20, 1996. The flag of Tamsalu Municipality is a horizontal tricolour—white, light green, and light blue—with standard dimensions of 105 × 165 cm. Its aspect ratio is 7:11. The Tamsalu Municipal Council also has its own flag, which consists of the municipal flag with the image of the municipal coat of arms placed in the center.

Coat of Arms

The coat of arms of Tamsalu Parish was the coat of arms of Tamsalu Parish—an administrative unit in Lääne-Viru County, Estonia—until its merger with Tapa Parish to form the new Tapa Parish. The coat of arms was approved on June 16, 2005, in conjunction with the merger of Tamsalu Parish and the town of Tamsalu. It is the town's former coat of arms. The greater part of the coat of arms is silver, while the lower section features a blue area separated by a horizontal line. Standing on the silver field is an oak tree with a green crown and a black trunk, its roots extending partially into the blue area; the roots situated within the blue field are silver. The heraldic figure is an oak tree—chosen for its toponymic significance—depicted with a compact crown and a clearly defined root system. A second symbolic element represents groundwater, a subject of concern within the Pandivere Water Protection Area.
