Overview

Flag ratio 7:11. Adopted 14 September, 1994. Golden line refers to the name of town (In Estonian sild is bridge, mägi is hill; sillamäe is hill of the bridge). Broken shape of the line refers to the many steps in the town. Colors refer to the sea, beach and sun.
Erki Kurrikoff, 6 April 2001

The flag is a banner of the coat of arms with a width-to-length ratio of 7:11 and a standard size of 105 x 165 cm. Golden stepped chevrons on a blue shield. The chevrons connecting the sides of the coat of arms symbolize both a bridge and a hill, thereby alluding to the city's name. The stepped shape of the chevrons reflects a distinctive feature of the city: its stepped streets and stairways. The colors of the coat of arms represent the sea, sandy beaches, and golden sunsets.
