Coat of Arms of Rakvere Parish: The escutcheon is blue. The central feature of the coat of arms is a golden ear of grain positioned vertically on the blue field between two golden circles (gold coins). The blue color of the shield refers to the heraldic color of Virumaa. The golden ear of grain symbolizes the fertile land and the region's primary economic activity—agriculture. The gold coins allude to the area's mineral wealth (phosphorite, limestone) as well as to treasure finds discovered in the vicinity. During the 2017 administrative reform, the municipalities of Rakvere vald and Sõmeru vald merged to form a new Rakvere vald. The new municipality adopted the flag of the former Rakvere vald and the coat of arms of Sõmeru vald. At the same time, the settlement of Sõmeru became the administrative center of the new municipality.
