There are five Krayot (plural of Kirya short
for Krayot HaMifratz or the Bay's Krayot) in Haifa Bay
area: Kiryat Yam, Kiryat Haim and Kiryat
Shmu'el (officially part of Haifa),
Kiryat Bialik, Kiryat Motzkin and Kiryat Ata.
There are also many nighbourhoods which are now parts of
those five (some were also separate local councils in the past)
that have this prefix, such as Kiryat Hashmal (today part of
Kiryat Haim), Kiryat Shemaryahu (Kiryat Bialik), Kiryat Binyamin,
Kiryat Frostig, Kiryat Shtand (Kiryat Ata) etc.

The word Kirya (pl. Krayot) comes from the
Bible and means town or city. The first to use it in this area
was Kiryat Haim in 1933. Even
though it is used in other local authorities Kiryat Shmona in Upper Galilee, Kiryat Gat in the south, Kiryat Ono in the centre and others.
However, when someone speaks about the Krayot he
refers to the five which are situated in Zvulun Valley, Haifa
Bay, north of Haifa.
