The cantonal shooting sport federation was founded in 1899 (with a precursor from 1894). It was a
fusion of divers shooting clubs, among them the Tireurs Valaisans (1883) and
the Société
des Tireurs du Rhône (1887). The original name of the new federation was Fédération
valaisanne des sociétés de tir / Kantonaler Verband der Walliser Schützen; in
1930 it was
changed to Société cantonale des tireurs valaisans / Walliser Kantonalschützenverein, and
finally in 2003 to the current name Fédération Sportive Valaisanne de Tir /
Walliser
Schiesssportverband (Valais Shooting Sport Federation). In 2022 the Federation counted 4186 individual
members of every age (clubs not counted). Since 1900 it has
been a member of the national association,
the Swiss Shooting Association (today Swiss Shooting Sport Federation).
Until 1939 the Federation used the old flag of the Société des Tireurs du Rhône, one of the
Federation's precursors (see above). In 1939 the first own flag of the Federation was introduced, which
was in use until 1968. Unfortunately this flag went lost.
