Writing and Reading Critically

First Term

Assignments and Evaluation

You are required to write two 1000-1500 word essays each term. Essay topics will be distributed on the dates given below. 60% of the mark is based on the term assignments; 40% is based on the two examinations. I encourage you to write more than two essays each term. I will count the two highest marks. There are advantages in doing this: you are preparing your thoughts for the examination and you are practicing your essay writing skills.

The examination at Xmas is two hours long. The exam at the end of the year is three hours long. You are required to write in each exam on the four texts you did not write on for the in-term assignments. Students who write more than two in-term essays may repeat one of them (or however many of them over two they write).

SEND YOUR ESSAYS TO ME AS AN ATTACHMENT IN WORD BY E-MAIL BECAUSE THIS COURSE DOES NOT USE ACORN/MOODLE
