Hugh Chipman - Background
I did an undergraduate honors degree in
Math at Acadia University
where my father
taught math (yes, I did have him for one class). After graduating in
1990, I went to Waterloo, where I did a M.Math and Ph.D. in
Statistics. My masters
was with Wayne
Oldford, and involved dynamic statistical graphics. My Ph.D. was
with Jeff Wu and
Mike Hamada,
and involved regression models for ordinal data, including Gibbs
sampling for GLMs, variable selection, and industrial applications.
In the last year of my doctoral studies (1993-4), Jeff moved to the University
of Michigan Statistics
Department, and I went with him to finish my thesis.
After my doctoral work, I was hired in 1994 as an assistant professor at
the University of Chicago
Graduate School of Business.
I stayed there until 1997, when I returned to the University of Waterloo.
In 2004, I moved to back to Acadia University, to take up a CRC.
