About Wolfville

Acadia University is located in Wolfville, a beautiful town in the stunning Annapolis Valley, in the Maritime province of Nova Scotia. Wolfville's charming and cosy downtown contains the essential coffeeshops, bookstores, and art/ craft galleries for relaxation during your stay. There are not only several fine dining establishments, but also local pubs to enjoy a pint of unique home brew. Becuase the conference is in October, you will be visiting admidst a bountiful harvest of fresh apples and other delicious fruits and vegetables.

Wolfville's natural setting, however, might be the greatest attraction for outdoor buffs. Located on the coast of the Minas Basin, at the top of the Fundy Bay, Wolfville is privy to the highest tides in the world. On a stroll on the boardwalk during low tides, it is possible to witness the staggering depth of the tides from the carved-out mud flats. This natural phenomenon is accompanied in Wolfville by the world's smallest harbour.

With regards to the Arts scene Wolfville is also lively. Theatre enthusiasts may be well aware that Acadia is home to the Atlantic Theatre Festival (ATF). The ATF has an incredibly active summer, running three plays and two series between June 5 and August 31st. During the school year, the Acadia Theatre program is also energetic, mounting three or four productions a year, and including a "Minifest" of student-written, directed, and designed plays. The Acadia Performing Arts Series also provides a valuable cultural dimension to Wolfville, with performances in the 2003-2004 season ranging from Liu Fang on the pipa and guzheng to the Pacific Baroque Orchestra to Vinok Worldance.

Altogether, Wolfville contains a lovely blend of exciting natural and cultural attractions that will appeal to visitors with a wide range of interests. We hope that you look forward to your stay, and will fully enjoy your time in the heart of the Annapolis Valley.
