Acadia University's Emergency Management Team continues to monitor
Health Canada reports of confirmed cases of Human Swine Influenza, now
called H1N1 Flu Virus. While there are no confirmed reports of this
influenza on campus to date, it is important that our University
community, as well as visitors be informed and aware of this health
issue.
Some of you have expressed concern regarding Convocation and the
recent return of a group of students from a personal trip to Mexico.
The University would like to advise that this group of students, along
with all travellers returning from Mexico, were assessed by Health
Canada medical officers and provided information about H1N1 influenza.
The University continues to be in contact with Public Health officials
and is advised that daily activities and public gatherings like
Convocation are to be continued.
It is recommended that all students, faculty, staff, and visitors to
campus take the same precautions used for seasonal influenza, which
include hand washing, using the on-campus waterless hand sanitizers,
coughing in your sleeve, and remaining home if showing symptoms of
illness.
As a precaution, the University will be increasing the number of hand
sanitizer stations in University Hall, Fountain Commons, the
gymnasium, and other buildings on campus to accommodate the increased
number of visitors during Spring Convocation. Our cleaning staff is
also following recommended cleaning procedures.
