Human Swine Influenza Precautions – Please Read

(Wolfville, N.S.) - Acadia University’s Emergency Management Team is monitoring Health Canada reports of confirmed cases of Human Swine Influenza in Canada, (four people are in recovery at King’s Edgehill School in Windsor, N.S.).

While there are no confirmed reports of this influenza on campus to date it is important that our University community is informed and aware of this health issue. The University is in contact with Public Health officials and will advise campus should this situation change.

Dr. Richard Gould, Medical Officer of Health for the Annapolis Valley District Health Authority, has advised that people only need to be concerned if they have developed flu symptoms within 7 days of returning from a location where Swine Flu is circulating, or if they were in direct contact with someone diagnosed with the Swine Flu.

Students, faculty, staff, and visitors to campus are advised to take the same precautions used for seasonal influenza.
