Critically acclaimed Canadian soprano Measha Brueggergosman Acadia’s Artist-in-Residence

(Wolfville, NS) -    Internationally-renowned Canadian soprano, Measha Brueggergosman, has been appointed Artist-in-Residence at the Acadia University School of Music. In recognition of the appointment, Brueggergosman will present a series of open master classes to Acadia music majors during the week of March 20 as well as a concert at Convocation Hall on March 23.

“We are thrilled to have someone with such extraordinary talent regularly visiting Acadia,” says Dr. Gail Dinter-Gottlieb, President and Vice-Chancellor of Acadia University. “Bringing Measha to Acadia is a remarkable accomplishment for our School of Music symbolizing the consistent quality of its programs. Our students and the broader community will benefit greatly from her presence on campus.”

Critically acclaimed for her voice, musicianship, and a stage presence far beyond her years, Brueggergosman has become known as one of the most brilliant artists of the day. During the 2005-2006 season she debuted with the San Diego Symphony, the Detroit Symphony Orchestra, the Seattle Symphony, and the Orchestre Philharmonique du Luxembourg.

Brueggergosman has sung for Queen Elizabeth II at Carnegie Hall's Weill Recital Hall, and in London at Royal Albert Hall. She has performed throughout Canada with the Toronto Symphony Orchestra, Symphony Nova Scotia, the Montreal Symphony Orchestra, the National Arts Centre Orchestra, and at Roy Thomson Hall. Brueggergosman has also performed at Parliament Hill in Ottawa, and appeared on the Juno Awards ceremony broadcast live throughout Canada.

“Measha has established an international singing career which promises unlimited potential,” says John Hansen, Director of the Acadia School of Music. “She is down to earth and has established a remarkable rapport with our students. What an inspiration for them to interact with her and to learn from her.”

Advance tickets for Brueggergosman’s concert on Thursday, March 23, at 8 p.m., are $12 and are available at the Acadia School of Music office at 585-1512. Tickets will also be available at the door on the evening of the concert for $15.
