NS) - RSC: The Academies and Acadia University will host
one of Canada's foremost ecological entomologists and
internationally renowned behavioural and chemical ecologist Dr.
Jeremy Nicol NcNeil for the Governor General's Lecture Series on
Wednesday, October 4, 2006 at 7 p.m., Festival Theatre, 504 Main
Street, Wolfville.
Dr. McNeil’s
presentation entitled "Eavesdropping on Mother Nature: In Search of
Alternatives to Synthetic Pesticides," will provide insight to
alternate management strategies for the control of insect pests that
are ecologically more acceptable than synthetic insecticides.
Dr. McNeil is the
Helen Battle Professor in the Department of Biology at the
University of Western Ontario. His research has contributed
significantly to the fundamental understanding of insect migration
in response to habitat change, and plant-herbivore-natural enemy
interactions.

RSC: The Academies
of Arts, Humanities and Sciences of Canada, is a renowned
national academy founded in 1882. RSC brings together distinguished
scientists, researchers and scholars in Canada. Its primary
objective is to promote learning and research in the arts, natural
and social sciences, and the humanities.
The Governor General's
Lecture Series were created to inform Canadians on recent advances
in research and will serve as a platform to discuss relevant
national policy issues. The Series was inaugurated in May 2005 and
lectures are given in four locations across Canada annually.
