(Wolfville, NS) - A
new approach to presenting an Easter dramatic production at Acadia
University’s Manning Memorial Chapel is in preparation.
Traditionally, the chaplain wrote a passion play that portrayed the
last week in the life of Christ. This year, students are
presenting the play, A Man for All Seasons, by Robert Bolt,
nightly at 8 p.m., April 6th, 7th and 8th in the Manning Memorial
Chapel.
A Man for All
Seasons is based on the true story of Sir Thomas More, the
16th-century Chancellor of England, who refused to endorse or
denounce King Henry VIII of England’s wish to divorce his aging wife
so that he can marry his mistress.
A number of well-known
students are taking the roles. Kelsey Tonner, who played ‘Clive’ in
See How They Run earlier this year, will be Thomas More. Ryan
Conrod, President of the Acadia Students’ Union (ASU) will be King
Henry VIII, and Agapito Barriga is ‘The Common Man.’ Amanda-Leigh
MacLeod, will be Margaret More, daughter of Sir Thomas. Next year’s
ASU President, Zachary Dayler, will play the craft Cardinal Wolsey.
Sanjeev Pushkarna, ASU Executive Vice-President will be Signor
Chapuys, the Spanish Ambassador. And Peter Eirikson, ASU Vice
President (Academic) will be William Roper.
Other roles include:
Duncan Philpot as Richard Rich, Joshua Campbell as the Duke of
Norfolk, Robyn Jackson as Alice More, David Langelaan as Thomas
Cromwell, Adam Bennett will be both the Attendant to the Ambassador
and Archbishop Cranmer, and Jennifer Cunningham will be ‘The Woman.’
Admission to A Man
for All Seasons is free, but there will be a free-will offering
in support of the chapel choir’s tour to Great Britain.
