Acadia event recognizes $275,000 for health research recipient - first Acadia professor to receive New Investigator Award from Canada’s Agency

 for Health Research - Canadian Institutes of Health Research

 

(Wolfville, NS) -  On Friday, February 18th, 2005, Acadia University and the Canadian Institutes of Health Research (CIHR) will recognize Dr. Shanthi Johnson for receiving important funding through the New Investigator Award. The CIHR Award is intended to provide opportunity for investigators to develop and demonstrate their independence in initiating and conducting health research.

Dr. Johnson, an associate professor in Acadia’s School of Nutrition and Dietetics, researches the impact of home-based exercise and nutrition interventions in reducing the incidence of falls among the elderly.

The recognition event will take place at the K.C. Irving Environmental Science Centre Auditorium at 3:00 p.m. and will be followed by a reception. Dr. Janice Keefe, CIHR Institute of Aging Advisory Board Member, Associate Professor at Mount St Vincent University and Canada Research Chair in Aging and Caregiving Policy, will be in attendance to recognize Dr. Johnson.
