Axemen Hockey Coach Darren Burns Named CIS Coach of the Year First place finish earns fourth-year coach national honours

 

(Wolfville, NS) -    Acadia University congratulates Darren Burns, Head Coach of the Acadia Axemen on his selection as Canadian Interuniversity Sport men’s hockey coach of the year. Burns was honoured by the CIS during a season-ending awards banquet in Edmonton on March 23.

Burns has been head coach of the Acadia Axemen since the 2001-02 season following assistant coaching positions with St. Mary’s University and Acadia. This year, he led the Axemen to a first-place finish in the Atlantic University Hockey Conference and a berth in post season play for the first time since the 2000-01 season. A native of Brockville, Ontario and a member of the 1992-93 national champion Axemen squad, Burns now lives in Port Williams, Nova Scotia.
