(Wolfville,
NS) - Acadia University today announced it will purchase
9,000 Dell™ Latitude™ D600 notebook computers over three years for
use by undergraduate students from Dell Canada Inc. (Dell Canada).
The partnership will enhance Acadia’s leading technology-rich
teaching and learning environment while helping lower total cost of
ownership for the University.
Acadia was the first
university in Canada to integrate notebook computers into the
undergraduate curriculum. This environment helps students develop
the advanced analytical skills they require to adapt to
ever-changing study and work environments.
To execute this
program, Acadia University has chosen Dell Canada to supply notebook
computers and to provide a creative and innovative solution that
will seamlessly integrate the Dell business model into the
University’s existing infrastructure and future plans. Beyond
supplying notebook computers, Dell Canada will provide a dedicated
web portal with 24-hour access to information and student bundle
packages to enhance the student’s learning experience.
"The association
between Dell Canada and Acadia University far exceeds the typical
technology supplier – end user relationship. As a valued partner of
Acadia, Dell understands the importance of encouraging students to
use technology to enhance their skills and create opportunities,"
said Dr. Gail Dinter-Gottlieb, President and Vice-Chancellor of
Acadia University. "Dell Canada has created an intern program, and
made a number of international placements and scholarships available
to Acadia University students. We are pleased to be working with
Dell Canada, and very much appreciate the enthusiasm the company has
demonstrated for enhancing the future of education in Canada through
the use of technology."
"As an organization
committed to the value of life-long learning, Dell Canada believes
in supporting both Canadian students and the educational
institutions they attend. Dell Canada is thrilled to be involved
with such a progressive university as Acadia, that facilitates the
use of mobile technology in the classroom. We look forward to
growing this relationship and making new technology available to
students in the years to come," said Lawrence Pentland,
vice-president of Dell Americas International.
