(Wolfville,
NS) - The Acadia Business Speaker Series was
launched today by Bill Garrett, Canadian folk legend, producer and
one of the founders of Toronto’s Borealis Records. Acadia’s Fred C.
Manning School of Business hosts the annual series to bring together
Canadian business leaders, allowing them to share their experiences
and insights with students and the local business community.
“Despite, an
impressive physical location and technological platform, Acadia
University remains somewhat geographically isolated from the
business centers of North America. Our students do not have easy
access to business leaders and thinkers. To help enhance the
educational experience of our undergraduate students, the business
school launched the Acadia Distinguished Business Speaker series,”
said Dr. Conor Vibert, series organizer. “By hosting such a series,
the learning environment for business students is enhanced and they
are challenged by individuals who have successfully traversed the
world of business.”
On September 22nd, the
series continues with David Campbell, Vice President of Shift
Central. Future guests will include: David Mann, President and CEO
of Emera; Dan McKeen, Co-CEO of Eastlink; Susan Mitton, Regional
Director of CBC Radio; Frank Clegg, President of Microsoft Canada
Co.; Alex Jurgens, Executive Director, Technical Services & Quality
Control, of Sepracor Inc.; and Diane Campbell, President and CEO of
Berkeley Holdings Ltd. The weekly lectures will run through to
November 17th.
Sponsored by the
McConnell Foundation, the lectures are free of charge and open to
the general public. Lecture details can be found at

Acadia’s School of
Business Administration consists of close to 650 students from over
20 countries and is run by 23 faculty members who have a diversity
of professional qualifications. The goal of the business school is
to develop graduates who pursue their careers with integrity,
initiative, and intellectual curiosity.
