Acadia reaches agreement with injured athlete

(Wolfville, NS) -    Acadia University and Mr. Jock MacDonald are pleased to announce that they have arrived at a mutually acceptable agreement that will bring to an end a lawsuit launched over six years ago by Mr. MacDonald against Acadia. The agreement was reached last week as part of a mediated discussion between the two parties and Acadia's insurer.

Mr. MacDonald was injured in September of 1996 during a training drill at Acadia's football camp. Mr. MacDonald suffered a spinal cord injury with resulting paralysis. Notwithstanding his limitations, Mr. MacDonald has earned an undergraduate degree from St. Mary's University and is currently pursuing a law degree from Dalhousie University. His determination to continue his academic career serves as an inspiration.

"We are pleased that our representatives have been able to reach a mutually acceptable agreement," said Dr. Gail Dinter-Gottlieb, President & Vice-Chancellor of Acadia University. "Jock has faced tremendous challenges and we are pleased that he will have some certainty of the support that will be available to him as he proceeds with his career. Jock has a bright future coupled with unparalleled enthusiasm and we wish him the very best."

Under the terms of the agreement, details will not be released.
