(Wolfville, NS) -
The formation of the Acadia Minor Hockey Association (AMHA) was
announced today during a news conference at the Acadia Athletics
Centre. The AMHA is the new name of the recently joined Kentville
Area Minor Hockey and East Kings Minor Hockey Associations.
"We are truly excited
about the tremendous opportunity to provide a superior development
program for all of our young hockey players. We hope to create an
environment where every child has the chance to grow as an athlete,
as a person and as a citizen. Our relationship with Acadia
University will serve as a model for other learning institutions and
community organizations across the country who want to strengthen
their communities by building better and healthier citizens through
youth initiatives," said Dave Duncan, President AMHA.
The AMHA will benefit
Acadia athletes and youth hockey players from local communities by
providing organized opportunities to exchange skills and life
experiences for both groups. The goal of the AMHA is to create an
environment where lifelong learning becomes second nature,
participants are valued, and all contributions are recognized and
applauded. By instilling these values in elite level student
athletes and recreation level youth participants the AMHA will help
create a supportive, fun learning environment that focuses on the
whole person.
“We are excited to be
a part of the newly formed AMHA to further build on Acadia’s special
relationship with the community. University players and coaching
staff look forward to sharing their hockey experience with young
local players who may not have had this kind of opportunity before
the amalgamation,” said Darren Burns, Head Coach Axeman Hockey.
The AMHA will be
responsible for providing services, under the auspices of Hockey
Nova Scotia and Hockey Canada, to the over 600 players and coaches
in the communities of Coldbrook, Centreville, Kentville, New Minas,
Port Williams, Canning and Wolfville.
