Acadia
students order textbooks electronically
For Release: January 6, 2003
(Wolfville,
NS) - Line-ups and waiting time at the Campus Store are
becoming a thing of the past for students at Acadia University.
Acadia's new on-line book ordering system is a fast and easy
alternative to picking books off the bookstore shelves.
Long before students
arrived back on campus for second term, the Campus Store was busy
filling the on-line orders. To date, the Store has received over 250
electronic orders which have been processed for pick-up or delivery
within 24 hours.
To order textbooks, a
student simply logs into Acadia's password protected Student
Information System. The student's class registration information
links to the site and instantly displays a complete list of books
required for each course. When choosing textbooks, the student is
given the option to purchase new or used books.
As a safety feature,
the student receives a return email within 15 minutes, confirming
the books ordered. An order confirmation number, invoice total, as
well as pick-up or delivery information, is emailed back to the
student within one business day of placing the order. Payments can
be made by Visa, MasterCard or Axe Cash (debit system used at Acadia
for various campus purchases).
Students living in
residence can request "home" delivery. The delivery option has been
made possible by student athlete volunteers with the $5 delivery fee
going to support varsity athletic programming.
An added benefit of
the electronic ordering system is the reduced need to have extensive
book stock on the floor. Now, up to 50 per cent of the floor space
is available for retail merchandise - ranging from Acadia's
merchandise lines and branded clothing to specialty gifts - almost
six times the space that was available previously.
"The vision for the
Campus Store is to provide students, faculty, staff, and friends of
the University with a fast on-line ordering service for merchandise,
ranging from textbooks to electronics and sports equipment," said
Mike Duffy, Senior Manager Retail.
Proceeds generated
from the Campus Store are returned to the University for
scholarships, to offset operating costs and provide academic
improvements.
