New head coach for Acadia's Axewomen's Volleyball team

For Release: August 22, 2002

(Wolfville, NS) -  There will be a new coach at the helm of Acadia's women's volleyball team this fall. Acadia is pleased to welcome Joffre Ribout as head coach starting September 3.

"We are very excited about the enthusiasm and expertise Joffre will bring to the Acadia Axewomen Volleyball program. He has a great track record as both an assistant coach and a head coach and has an excellent reputation nationally," said Dan McNally Director of Acadia Athletics.

Ribout, the assistant coach for the University of Western Ontario men's volleyball team since 1995, helped take the team to six conference championships and five top six finishes at the national championships. Assuming the head coaching role at Western during the 1999-2000 season, Joffre led the team to a conference championship and was named the OUA west division Coach of the Year. Ribout's other credits include coaching club teams to four provincial gold medals and three silver medals. He has also been the recipient of a Petro Canada National Scholarship given to select young coaches seeking a degree in coaching.

"Acadia has a great academic reputation and the University appears to be dedicated to its athletic department. Wolfville is an intimate town in which I believe the people will be very supportive. As for the team, they are young, talented, eager and on the rise. These factors should make any adjustments in moving enjoyable," said Ribout.

Ribout has a Bachelor of Arts Degree from Laurentian University and a Bachelor of Law degree from the University of Western Ontario. He is currently a candidate for a Masters in Coaching at the University of Western Ontario.

Acadia's 2002/03 team is solid, with the majority of players coming back this September. Last year's team posted a 10-8 record, finishing in the top half of the Atlantic Conference and securing a playoff position.

The regular volleyball season starts on October 26th with Acadia at Mount Allison. The Axewomen's first home game is on Saturday, November 2nd with the University College of Cape Breton.
