For Release: October 16 , 2002

(Wolfville, NS) -  The part-time faculty union informed University officials on Tuesday, October 15th of its intention to commence strike action on Thursday, October 17th at 2:30 p.m. Part-time faculty currently teach approximately 5 per cent of the course enrolments at Acadia. Based on this notification, Acadia has developed a contingency plan which is focused on providing the best possible options for any Acadia students who may be affected.

University and union officials have agreed to meet early tomorrow to discuss the outstanding contract issues with provincial conciliator Darrell Foley.

University officials look forward to tomorrow's discussion with the hope that it will result in a fair and responsible settlement.
