considered Best Overall for the ninth year
For Release: November 11 , 2002
(Wolfville,
NS) - In the Maclean's University Rankings issue,
released today, Acadia has been ranked by Canada's opinion leaders
as the best overall, primarily undergraduate university for the 9th
consecutive year.
Acadia once again
scored strongly in all categories of the reputational survey, and
once again topped the list as Most Innovative. "When more than 7000
high school guidance counsellors, university officials, corporate
recruiters and CEOs of leading Canadian corporations from across
Canada provide this kind of outside evaluation it confirms the
strong educational experience this institution is providing and
ensures outstanding opportunities for our graduates," said Dr.
Kelvin Ogilvie, Acadia's President & Vice-Chancellor.
In the overall ranking
of the 21 primarily undergraduate universities, Acadia regained
third place standing. Gains were also made in several very
significant areas, including average entering grade, proportion of
students with 75 percent or higher and faculty research awards.
An important aspect of
Acadia's tradition of excellence is its commitment to student
development; both academically and extra-curricularly. This
commitment, exemplified by the acclaimed Acadia Advantage program,
extends to residence life and the Residence Advantage initiative
which will ensure that Acadia students continue to enjoy an enriched
campus experience. These and other developments have resulted in a
nearly 50 percent increase in applications for admission over the
past three years.
