Constellation CD released by Acadia University

For Release: August 7, 2002

(Wolfville, NS) -  Acadia University's Institute of Teaching and Technology, in partnership with the School of Music, has completed its first compilation CD of original music in benefit of L'Arche Canada. The 12 song Constellation CD features some of the best musicians and songwriters on Acadia campus, unheard until now.

"Acadia University has been cultivating great musicians since its foundation in 1838," says Executive Producer Robb Lepper. "Names like Don Osburn, The Neighbors Kids and even multiple ECMA nominee Ian Janes cut their teeth on the Acadia campus. Now, with the help of notebook computers and digital audio technology, we have the next generation of performers standing up waiting to be noticed."

As part of the Acadia Advantage program, students attending Acadia, from all disciplines, have the opportunity to experiment with sound and music using their notebook computers. "Our students can now digitally stream sounds from Roland's state-of-the-art equipment to their notebook computers to later digitally edit a sound creation using Steinberg software," explained Dr. Christoph Both from Acadia's School of Music. Two years later, after the opening of the Acadia Digital Recording Studio (ADRS) proof of that experimentation and innovation can be heard in the tracks on Constellation: A Compilation of Music from Acadia University.

Produced at the ADRS, Constellation showcases the musical and cultural diversity of the Acadia campus. Featured artists include Annapolis Valley singer/songwriter Rick MacNab, Exit 13 mandolin player Jude Pelley, veteran New Brunswick dinner theatre entertainer Mike Allison and emerging Gambian hip hop artist, Hadim Jobe, making his first Canadian appearance.

All proceeds from CD sales benefit L'Arche Canada's local home for the developmentally disabled, Homefires, in Wolfville. "The partnership was instinctive," states Lepper "through programs on campus like S.M.I.L.E and Music Therapy, Acadia has always been a supporter of the great service L'Arche performs in Wolfville...this was just another way we could help them continue that work." The Constellation CD is available at the Acadia Bookstore and Cajuns on Main in downtown Wolfville and online from the Constellation official website http://aitt.acadiau.ca/constellation/.

The official CD release will be on Friday, August 16th starting at 4:30 p.m. in the Axe Lounge, Acadia University. Admission is free and will feature live performances by Rick MacNab, Rust Bucket and other Constellation performing artists.
