Vice-President of Growth & Operations appointed at Acadia University

(Wolfville, NS) – Acadia University is pleased to welcome Dov Bercovici as the newest addition to Acadia University’s senior management team. Mr. Bercovici will be taking on the role of Vice-President, Growth & Operations effective May 1, 2001.

Mr. Bercovici will be responsible for using the whole University as a resource base to generate new revenue to be used in continuing to build the best primarily undergraduate university in the country.  Ancillary services will report directly to the new position.  Mr. Bercovici will also develop, negotiate, and execute business contracts for the University. Working collaboratively with the Acadia University community, he will be responsible for new product and service development, as well as the commercialization of intellectual property.

University President Dr. Kelvin Ogilvie said the Board of Governors approved this position in October of 2000 as part of the strategic plan for the University. He added “New revenue generated will help reduce dependence on tuition and will allow the University to provide unique facilities and opportunities in support of faculty and student initiatives.”

Mr. Bercovici’s background and experience will help enhance the marketing of the University’s assets to the local, national and international communities.  Most recently, he was General Manager, World Trade Centre Halifax, where he has worked since 1994. He holds a BA in Economics from McGill University (Montreal) and an MBA in International Marketing from Dalhousie University (Halifax). He is also a Certified International Trade Professional (CITP).

Mr. Bercovici is also very involved in the Nova Scotia community.  He was selected as the Canadian Progress Club (Halifax) Progression of the Year in 2000 recipient. He has served as Chair of the Kingsmeadow Home for the Mentally Challenged in Windsor, NS (2000), on the Board of Governors at Dalhousie University, and Chair of the Canadian Progress Club’s Sports Celebrity Dinners in 2000 & 2001.

A business columnist on international trade with Atlantic Progress magazine, Mr. Bercovici was also a part-time professor at Saint Mary’s University and the Nova Scotia Community College, where he has taught a variety of business courses.
