For Release: October 17 , 2001Acadia University and Associated Alumni sign mediated agreement
(Wolfville, NS) - Officers of the Associated Alumni of Acadia University (AAAU) have signed the Lorne Clarke Agreement and Acadia University has reconfirmed its acceptance. Both parties expressed relief and optimism at the signing last Friday, October 12.The agreement, written in January of 1999 by former Chief Justice Lorne Clarke, sets the stage for the two organizations to work together in the best interest of the University. Acadia's Board of Governors unanimously approved the Agreement in 1999. It was not until the Annual General Meeting of the Associated Alumni in May of 2001 that the AAAU provided its endorsement. The Agreement provides specific guidelines for alumni fundraising, communication with alumni and the sharing of information. It has as its overriding principle that the AAAU and Acadia University will work together "in the best interest of Acadia University." The agreement contains a clause to deal with future disagreements should they arise.
A transition team comprised of AAAU and University representatives continues to hold discussions.
