Shell Canada donates $150,000 to the Acadia Advantage Program

(Wolfville, NS) – Acadia University recognized a $150,000 contribution made by Shell Canada to fund classroom infrastructure for the Acadia Advantage program at a classroom dedication on Wednesday, March 28.

In announcing Shell’s gift, Acadia alumnus, David Hastings of the Sable Offshore Energy Project said, “Shell Canada is committed to excellence in education. Through the Sable Project we have built a strong link between Shell Canada and the province of Nova Scotia. Supporting education through the Acadia Advantage program illustrates our commitment to this community.”

Shell’s gift has enabled Acadia to complete another Acadia Advantage classroom in Seminary House, a building last year declared an historic site by the government of Canada. The Acadia Advantage classroom is fully wired and networked so that technology is integrated into each course, and provided at each seat, giving students instant, worldwide access to information. Integrating the newest technology into a classroom environment situated in a historical structure is unique.

In thanking Shell Canada for their support of Acadia, University President Dr. Kelvin Ogilvie said, “This classroom can be viewed as a frontier. It brings the newest technology and the most current information digitally to the fingertips of students, in a classroom situated in one of the oldest wooden buildings in Canada in continuous use as an educational facility.”

The Acadia Advantage program is a revolutionary initiative that incorporates the latest computer and internet technology into the classroom. Launched in 1996, the Acadia Advantage program encompasses every discipline offered by the University. By offering a total immersion in the application of information technology to all undergraduate students, Acadia has taken a leadership role in innovation and excellence in the classroom.

The Acadia Advantage infrastructure is unparalleled across Canada and is at the forefront of undergraduate education technology for North America. No other Canadian university has a mobile computing initiative that reaches every undergraduate student. The generous support of business and industry leaders like Shell Canada allows Acadia to provide its students with an educational advantage.
