For Release: March 30, 2001Acadia hosts RCMP VIP training session
(Wolfville, NS) – Several Acadia University staff and students were treated to realistic Royal Canadian Mounted Police VIP training maneuvers yesterday as the campus hosted new RCMP officers for training sessions in VIP protection."We are pleased that Acadia could help with this necessary aspect of the RCMP training program," said John Smith Director of Acadia Safety & Security.
About 20 student volunteers and members of Acadia's security department helped set the stage for VIP security scenarios, providing a realistic and controlled setting for officers to learn the necessary skills to provide close personal protection during a VIP visit. Officers put their observation and instinct skills to work, as they reacted quickly to the staged safety threats strategically posed by the student volunteers.
Community Relations Officer Constable Gary Smith explained that RCMP officers have to be ready for VIP security duties when the need arises to support the force's VIP Section based in Halifax. "We are very appreciative of the cooperative efforts by Acadia University in helping to prepare these new officers," Smith added.
