For Release: February 5, 2001Re-appointment of Arthur Leigh Irving as Chancellor of the University
(Wolfville, NS) - Acadia University's Board of Governors has announced the re-appointment of Arthur Leigh Irving as Chancellor of the University.Mr. Irving was first installed as Chancellor on October 19, as part of the 1996 Fall Convocation ceremonies. In this role, Mr. Irving will continue to preside at convocations and promote the interests and welfare of the University. The Chancellor is appointed for a five-year term.
With a longstanding family connection to Acadia, Mr. Irving has devoted time and energy to the role of Chancellor. As a business leader he has shared his expertise with Acadia through service on the Board of Governors.
"Mr. Irving's accomplishments in the business world are well documented and he has brought this same ability, foresight and enthusiasm to his role as Chancellor of Acadia University," said Board Chair, George Bishop. "I am delighted that Mr. Irving is returning for a second term as our Chancellor."
Acadia President, Dr. Kelvin Ogilvie, has also expressed his delight in Mr. Irving accepting a second term as Chancellor. "Mr. Irving has been an inspiration to everyone and particularly to our students. His enthusiasm for Acadia, and his genuine interest in our students, has brought a personal and warm and deeply appreciated dimension to the role of Chancellor." Dr. Ogilvie added that Mr. Irving's interest in the people of Atlantic Canada and his convictions for the opportunities for the future are second to none.
Arthur Irving serves as the President of Irving Oil Limited in Saint John, NB and together with his brothers manages the family business.
