For Release: May 25, 2001Acadia names Athletics Director
(Wolfville, NS) - Acadia University is pleased to welcome alumnus Dan McNally as the Director of Athletics. Mr. McNally, who holds a BA and MA (English Literature) from Acadia, will return to the University on July 3.Mr. McNally will oversee the delivery of highly competitive and sustainable varsity and club programs at the University. In addition, he will be specifically responsible for the preparation of a plan to ensure that all varsity programs funded by the University are resourced to win national championships.
“Acadia Athletics has a long history of excellence,” said University Provost Paula Cook. “We are pleased that Mr. McNally has agreed to lead what promises to be an exciting future for athletics at Acadia.”
Mr. McNally has been involved with intercollegiate athletics both as player and a coach for almost 28 years. Following his time as a football player and later as an assistant coach at Acadia, Mr. McNally assumed his most recent role as Head Football Coach at the University of Guelph in 1987. In his position at Guelph, Mr. McNally initiated several advancement programs including an alumni based booster club, which has raised funds for the enhancement of the Guelph football program. At the departmental level, he led a team in the development of a mission statement for Guelph Athletics and developed a handbook for student-athletes.Mr. McNally said that he is eager to help build Acadia athletic programs that reflect excellence and equity. “I believe that the educational benefits derived from a successful experience as a student-athlete are benefits that cannot be duplicated in any other way, they are life skills that cannot be learned in any classroom. Successful intercollegiate athletic programs produce strong, principled and dedicated leaders and citizens.”
Intercollegiate athletics is an integral component of the Acadia experience and the University is committed to a vision that combines excellence in academic programming with excellence in athletics.
