(Wolfville, NS) – Two New Brunswickers from Acadia’s class of 2000 are making their mark. Wes Dick from Saint John and Trevor Moffitt from St. Stephen have both been hired as analysts by Credit Suisse First Boston Corporation in New York, a major Wall Street investment banking firm. With a reported 6000 applicants from across North America, Mr. Dick and Mr. Moffitt competed against graduates from some of North America’s top universities. The majority of the other successful applicants have graduate degrees.
“An indication of how unusual it is for two Canadian undergrads to land these jobs comes from questions asked by companies on Bay Street in Toronto who were competing with CSFB trying to hire Wes and Trevor. They asked, ‘How did these guys get interviews, let alone get those jobs?’” said business professor, Ernie Buist, who taught Mr. Dick and Mr. Moffitt.
Mr. Dick and Mr. Moffitt made significant contributions while at Acadia. There is no question that their involvement in the Acadia community and their exemplary academic records contributed toward their success. Mr. Dick was very involved in extracurricular activities at Acadia and served as President of the Business Society. Mr. Moffitt was a teaching assistant, a residence assistant and was active in both intramural athletics and the Business Society.
Mr. Dick and Mr. Moffitt felt that Acadia’s induction into the Smithsonian Institute and the University’s consistent high ranking in Maclean’s magazine put them on an even footing with graduates from some of the prestigious American universities. They also give credit to the faculty and staff at Acadia. “Professor Buist, and Bruce Galloway, Acadia’s Executive-in-Residence and former vice-president of the Royal Bank, were invaluable in helping me prepare for my interview,” said Mr. Moffitt.
Professor Buist commented on the graduates’ natural tendency to seek knowledge: “That level of curiosity and persistence will carry them a long way,” said Professor Buist.
The former students are graduates of Acadia’s Business Administration Program where each took a concentration in finance. Mr. Dick and Mr. Moffitt are members of the first graduating class with a large contingent of students whom completed the Acadia Advantage Program.
