Kevin Dickie renews contract as head coach of Acadia Axemen Hockey program

(Wolfville, NS) –Kevin Dickie has confirmed his decision to return as Head Coach of the Acadia Axemen Hockey program. Although Dickie’s initial contract will not expire until June 30, 2000, he and Acadia have come to an early agreement to renew the relationship.  His new contract will take effect July 1.

Dickie assumed the role of Head Coach of the Acadia Axemen in June 1997.  The Axemen have won the Kelly Division championship and appeared in the AUAA conference final in each of his three years at Acadia and earned a Silver Medal at the CIAU National Championships in 1998.

"When I assumed the role of Head Coach I stepped into a program where I had to keep winning,” said Dickie. “The pressure to maintain a winning team has been a challenge.   I started out the first season with six returning forwards and in the first two years we had to replace 19 players.  Right now, I feel the program is in good shape."

"My wife Cindy and I really were looking for an excuse to stay in the area.  We love the community and I especially love the coaching environment here at Acadia," says Dickie.

“I am extremely pleased that Kevin has decided to commit early to renew his relationship with Acadia,” said Bev Greenlaw of Acadia Varsity Athletics.  “Kevin is a bright, extremely capable young coach.  He has already achieved a lot, and has a great future in the sport. I am very happy that Acadia is where he and Cindy have chosen to be.”

On Friday, June 2 the Canadian Hockey Association named Dickie as an assistant coach of Canada's 2001 world junior hockey team. This appointment follows his successful stint as assistant with the national under-18 squad that won gold at the Four Nations tournament in Slovakia last August.

Dickie is one of a select group of Canadian Hockey coaches who have achieved Level 4 National Certification.
