Acadia students sweep financial awards

(Wolfville, NS) - For the first time the Atlantic Chapter of the Canadian Financial Executives Institute have given their only two medallion awards to students from the same school.

Fourth year business students Phillipa Ferguson and Trevor Moffitt of Acadia University received an engraved bronze medallion and a cash honorarium at an awards ceremony at the Halifax Club on March 29, 2000.

Ms. Ferguson won the award for outstanding achievement in accounting. "I was very pleased to receive such a prestigious award and to have a chance to meet some of the top financial executives in Atlantic Canada," says Ms. Ferguson. She is starting work at Ernst and Young Chartered Accounts in Nassau, Bahamas and will take the Certified Public Accountant examination. She plans to pursue a graduate degree in finance and international business.

Mr. Moffitt was recognized for his outstanding achievements in finance. "The award is a true honor. I was extremely pleased to be the recipient. I have already been exposed to some great people as a result," says Mr. Moffitt. The valedictorian of his New Brunswick high school class has previously received a number of scholarships and continues to be successful. "I'm starting a career in Investment Banking with Credit Suisse First in New York City this July," he says. He eventually hopes to pursue an MBA.

Phillipa Ferguson and Trevor Moffitt will join with Acadia's faculty and approximately 800 fellow students in the celebration of Convocation on May 14 and 15.
