One more first for Acadia University: Computer Science e-commerce undergraduate degree

Wolfville, N.S. - Acadia University is taking the lead once again in providing world-class learning opportunities by offering the first Computer Science based e-commerce undergraduate degree.

In September, the Jodrey School of Computer Science will offer a brand new Bachelor of Computer Science (BCS) with a specialization in electronic commerce.

"We just started promoting our new program and we are thrilled by the response," says Andre Trudel, Acadia's Director of Computer Science. " Universities that currently offer e-commerce do it through their business or commerce faculties. Our program is unique, because it is coming from computer science at the undergraduate level. Our graduates will not only know the talk, but will be able to implement it."

The Gartner Group, a well-known industry consultant, has predicted that by 2001 only 20% of large enterprises will have candidates that possess the needed skill sets and knowledge for electronic commerce.

"If e-commerce keeps mushrooming, there won’t be enough trained people to meet the demand," says Trudel. "Our school’s industrial advisory board has assured us that our graduates would be sought after by small, medium and large enterprises. Our BCS students have no problem finding a full time position. The e-commerce graduates would be even more marketable."

The e-commerce program is a product of the Acadia Advantage approach to education, displaying Acadia's commitment to providing its students with the best possible educational experience through innovation and excellence in teaching, research and services

Acadia is a leader in innovation and excellence in the classroom. The University provides students with world-class access to information and technology through the Acadia Advantage program, which links students to a network of resources through the use of notebook computers.
