Acadia Class of 2000: Giving Back to the Future

(Wolfville, NS) - The graduating class of Acadia University is doing something different this year.  In keeping with the traditional donation of a commemorative gift to the University, the Grad Class is giving two distinct gifts that reflects their uniqueness as the first graduating class of the new millennium.

Plaques explaining historical facts about Acadia will be created to remind future students of the contributions made to the University by its former graduates.  At least one plaque will be placed in every building on campus.  Several buildings will be adorned with as many as five individual plaques.

Most notably, the class is also donating an ornate stained glass window that features imagery of Acadia’s Nova Scotia heritage.  The window is valued at $2,500 and is designed by the father of a current Acadia student.  It will be installed on the south side of University Hall facing McConnell Hall where it will be seen by anyone walking across campus.

An artistic rendering of the clock tower atop University Hall will be inlaid with a picture of a notebook, which represents Acadia’s commitment towards innovation.  An imaginative apple blossom recognizes contributions made by the Annapolis Valley community.  The window also acknowledges the religious roots of the University’s founders.

"Fish are depicted to represent Acadia’s Baptist heritage along with a Maritime theme," explains Grad Class Treasurer David Eisenor. The colours of the Nova Scotia flag and the Acadia crest decoratively border the pane.  The Class’ gift will be illuminated by natural sunlight in the day and a light in the foyer during the night.

The unveiling of the class gift will take place during a tea party on the lawn of University Hall on Saturday, May 13 at 3:00 p.m.
