Business school introduces financial services program

(Wolfville, NS) – The Fred C. Manning School of Business at Acadia University has announced a new degree concentration within the current Bachelor of Business Administration (BBA) program. The newly created Specialization in Personal Financial Services will begin this September.

The development of this new program is a result of the recent expanded interest in the personal financial services sector. The Specialization in Personal Financial Services, the first undergraduate program of its kind in Canada, requires the completion of courses in finance, taxation, estate planning, ethics, marketing and economics.

“We, at the Bank of Montreal, are very supportive of Acadia University’s Personal Financial Services program," stated R.M. (Bob) Bissett, Vice-President (Nova Scotia) of the Bank of Montreal. He added, "There will be a strong demand for well qualified candidates pursuing careers in our industry and we believe that this program will offer Acadia business students excellent career opportunities and, in turn, to offer employers the distinctive Acadia competitive advantage."

The co-ordinator of the program, Dr. John Churchill, is a business professor at Acadia with extensive experience in writing texts, developing programs and teaching courses in the financial services industry.  According to Dr. Churchill, "The Specialization is more than simply a university major. It requires the completion of the Canadian Securities Course, work terms and participation in professional seminars."

“There can be no doubt that this new program places Acadia at the forefront of Canadian educational institutions in preparing future employees for the securities and banking industries," said Jim Moir, former chairman, president, and CEO of Merrill Lynch Canada. Mr. Moir further suggested that "this new program in conjunction with Acadia's world renowned use of technology can only serve to enhance the University's existing reputation for providing its graduates with the most relevant skills required of twenty-first century professionals."

The Fred C. Manning School of Business is a recognized leader in the use of technology in the classroom and has continued to develop new teaching methods since the introduction of the highly acclaimed Acadia Advantage program.
