For Release: December 21, 2000New Senior Advisor - External Relations at Acadia University
(Wolfville, NS) - In the New Year Acadia will welcome Ronald B. Mitton as Senior Advisor-External Relations. Through this position Mr. Mitton will act as a University ambassador to the community, reaching out and informing on a personal basis of what is happening at the University and engaging alumni and the community with University activities and affairs. He will also be active in a variety of the University's extensive development initiatives.Mr. Mitton graduated from Acadia University with B.A. in 1969 and received a law degree in 1972 from Dalhousie Law School. He practiced in Calgary before returning to Halifax in 1976 and is currently a senior partner in the firm Burke Mitton Thompson, with a practice in civil litigation.
His roots at Acadia are deep. He has served on the Acadia University Board of Governors, as an alumni representative from 1982-2000. His father Harold L. Mitton ’44 ’46 was the Principal of the Acadia Divinity College from 1975 to 1991. Both father and son served together on the Board of Governors in the 1980’s.
“Mr. Mitton has had a long and respected relationship with the Acadia community. We are pleased to have him continue in his commitment to our University and to further complement the alumni relations and development programs,” said Paula Cook, University Provost.
Mr. Mitton has served on various Boards in the arts and cultural sector. He is currently the chairman of the Foundation for Heritage and the Arts in Nova Scotia and served on the Board of Symphony Nova Scotia and also on the Board of the Writers’ Trust in Toronto.
