These courses examine politics among sovereign states and other actors on the world scene. We look at the ways in which states set foreign policy objectives and seek to attain these goals through a mix of propaganda, diplomatic negotiation, economic stagecraft, and military means. The problems confronting sovereign states range from preserving security in the age of nuclear weapons to collaborating to avert environmental and financial catastrophes. Others actors in world politics include peace groups, environmentalists, UN agencies and transnational corporations.
