A survey of indigenous peoples in selected countries such as Canada, Russia, Finland, United States, Mexico, Central America, Japan, New Zealand and Australia from the period of contact with Europeans through to the twentieth century. Particular attention is paid to the indigenous peoples' responses to the challenges brought about by contact with the Europeans.
