Themes in the history of modern Canada from the Laurier era to the present. Emphasis is on the development of the Canadian nation-state, the evolution of social, economic and political institutions and ideologies and their response to the dual process of industrialization and urbanization, the Depression, the two world wars, regionalism and provincial rights, the growth of organized labour, the birth of third parties and Canada's integration into an increasingly interdependent world.
