This team-taught course will bring English majors together in their second year to give them a common experience in exploring genre and in discussing various critical strategies for reading literature. Amongst the theoretical approaches that may be introduced are psychoanalysis, post-modernism, and reader-response. The course is recommended for the second year, but, in the event of unusual circumstances, can be completed by the end of the third year. The course is required of all English majors but is also open to English minors.
