This course focuses on the sociological understanding of the origins, development, and interpretation of criminal law in Canada. The social construction of law is examined in the context of the Charter of Rights and Freedoms, judicial decisions, and social forces. Topics may include theories of law, women and the justice system, aboriginal and restorative justice.
