The major perspectives and themes in the sociology of religion. The
basic theoretical approaches and a number of contemporary issues are
explored. Topics include: conservative versus revolutionary functions
of religion; the influence of class on religion; sectarianism; the
Protestant ethic debate; new religious movements; secularization.
