An introduction to the Earth; its composition, internal structure, external features, and physical evolution. The concepts of sea-floor spreading and plate tectonics provide a framework for the origin and development of continents, oceans, mountains and volcanoes, and lead to an appreciation of an evolving, dynamic Earth.
