Who am I? What can I know? How should I act? Such questions have always interested thinkers. The first term deals with three or four major (and conflicting) ways in which these questions have been systematically answered by thinkers such as Plato, Descartes, Hume, Marx, and Freud. The second term deals with a single topic such as sex, religion, art, or politics as studied by modern thinkers. The goal is to develop skills of critical analysis and self-expression while coming to understand our culture's most influential thinkers.
